New poll: Hillary Clinton leads Bernie Sanders by 13 points in Pennsylvania
The day after a stinging primary defeat in New York, a new poll suggests Bernie Sanders faces an uphill battle in Pennsylvania next Tuesday — the biggest of the day’s five primary contests.
The poll, released Wednesday by Monmouth University, finds Hillary Clinton leading Sanders by 13 percentage points in the Keystone State, 52%-39%.
Clinton’s New York win Tuesday stunted a primary win streak by Sanders, who had taken seven of the previous eight states.
“After her win in New York this week, these numbers in nearby Pennsylvania suggest that the entire northeast is looking pretty good for the Clinton campaign,” said Patrick Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
The survey captured the thoughts of 302 likely Democratic primary voters in the state, where 189 pledged delegates will be at stake Tuesday.
Pennsylvania’s also a key swing state, Monmouth notes. But not many Pennsylvanians are feeling the #BernieOrBust movement , the poll suggests.
Should Clinton clinch the nomination, 81% of the Democrats polled said they would vote for her. Just 11% said they’d support Trump, were he the Republican nominee.
Monmouth conducted its poll via phone from April 17-19. It's margin of error is plus or minus 5.6 percent.
